LANGUAGE -BASED APPROCH IN TEACHING ENGLISH AND THE GRAMMATICAL COMPETENCE AMONG GRADE 9 STUDENTS

This study determined if a language-based approach using literary texts in teaching English will improve the grammatical competence of Grade 9 students verbals. To generate data on level proficiency and competence, pretest post-test were used to assess learning outcome subjects study. Based analysis data, results revealed that after implementation approach, respondents gerund infinitive is approaching they have acquired 50%-60% both topics while are proficient participle 70%-80% competence. It was concluded there significant difference before approach. recommended that: In implementing it important pay particular attention stylistic The teacher may provide with opportunity distinguish pattern usage verb tenses also, enhance acquire verbals other grammar concepts, rich drills practices written activities allowing use concepts create their own sentences. Finally, support instruction more texts, resources, effective techniques strategies encourage active student engagement.
